Comhairle Heritage Service: Museum Opening Hours and Archive Services

Museum nan Eilean at both Stornoway and Lionacleit will continue to operate on reduced opening hours during the low season. This reduction in opening hours is to allow for staff to focus on the rebuilding of systems following the cyber-attack on 7 November.

From January, Museum nan Eilean at Stornoway has been open from 1-4pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and these hours will continue until end of March. The Special Exhibitions Gallery will also be open these hours and has a newly launched exhibition, "Seinn Spioradail" on display.

Museum nan Eilean at Lionacleit is currently closed to set up a new exhibition but will reopen in mid-February.

Archive visits and enquiries continue to be by appointment only and will be on a case-by-case basis.  The archive service can be contacted by emailing archives@cne-siar.gov.uk.

The opening hours of the café at Lews Castle, operated by Together Travel, remain unchanged and the café can be accessed as usual via the main Castle entrance when the museum is closed.

Please visit the Outer Hebrides Heritage website for information about the collections and resources for schools and families.
