UK Parliamentary Election Voter ID: Reminder

The Returning Officer at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is reminding voters in the Western Isles of the requirement for Voter ID at the next UK Parliamentary General Election. Although no date has been set for the Election it is important that members of the public are prepared so that they are ready to participate and be able to vote.

The following forms of Photo ID will be accepted:

  • Passport
  • Some Concessionary Travel Cards (advice available here: Accepted forms of photo ID | Electoral Commission
  • Driving Licence (including Provisional Licence)
  • Blue Badge
  • Identity Card with Pass Mark
  • Other Government-issued Documents
  • Biometric Immigration Document
  • Defence Identity Card
  • National Identity Card

Any individual who does not have a valid form of ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate. A video guide on how to apply for the certificate is available on the Electoral Commission UK YouTube Channel.

Please remember that there is no need to wait until an Election is announced to check if you have a valid form of ID already, or to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate.
